As I was reading a court decision I noticed the word 'handkerchief' and paused. This looked so strange and foreign to me. Granted the case is from 1928, so maybe some stuff was spelled different (as siphon was syphon) but no, this is indeed the correct way to spell that word. I feel like an idiot at this point. When I say handkerchief I always think of it in my head as hankerchif. Not a big difference, but the moment of "OH! look at that" which I had upon realizing the word HAND is in handkerchief. Yup, I'm an idiot.
