The Generation Below

I've never really felt part of my generation. But the generation below me? Oh how terrifying. This past weekend I was visiting the lovely Target in Lakeway with my mother. While checking out, two of the cashiers were talking (high school students...thus I deem them the generation below me. I certainly don't want them in mine). They happened to be talking about one of their co-works shaving his head. The girl at the next register (the cashier) said in response to our cashier saying "It looked like he got arrested and put in jail", "Or just got out of a concentration camp or something".

My heart stopped. I froze. WHAT?!?!

I realize it's been twice my lifetime since WWII, but that doesn't mean it was a LONG time ago. In my head I heard Stewie Griffin say "Too soon?" to which I replied. "Hell yes too soon!". Who does that? Who has such little respect and such little understanding of the horror that was the Holocaust to joke about concentration camps?

If it is too soon to make jokes about black people and slaves, then it is DEFINITELY too soon to make jokes about the Holocaust. For the love of civility people, have you no brains? Have you no education?

And I'm done. If you disagree with me, please don't tell me. I'm still deeply insulted from the conversation. And I'm still disgusted by the generation below.
