College Football and Homework= Saturday

Been working on homework today. Might start outlining tomorrow. I started the skeletal structure of my outlines today, but it would be nice to fill some of them in tomorrow. But we'll have to see how long some of this reading takes. I have a fair bit of reading to do, but the real killer is the reading is really dry material. The kind of stuff that puts me to sleep within minutes of beginning it. So it's a struggle to make it through. I end up having to take breaks so that I won't lull myself to sleep.

Mr. B is still on the road. It's odd not watching football with him. Of course, I was able to put the tv on mute and do some homework during the first quarter when the game was a bit slow. So that was nice.

I looked through a slide show of photos Yahoo! had online today in remembrance of September 11, 2001. They were supposed to be the more memorable shots from that day. I must say only a handfull of them were the really really memorable ones. They left out quite a few of the really soul stilling shots. I'm not sure if that was intentional or not. Every year remembering that day sends chills down my spin and takes me back. I feel the need to hug my loved ones. Hopefully my parents could feel my mental hug today.

But despite the strong feelings remembering brings, I must say I do not understand the book burnings. I do not think any books should ever be burned, no matter what they say. As a student of Constitutional law, I very much agree with Oliver Holmes and his sentiment on freedom of expression. I understand people have a protected right in the country to burn books. And freedom of expression is a precious right. But I feel there are more intelligent ways of expressing your views than destroying another's distribution of thought. Burning of any book only makes me think the burner is ignorant and unable to properly express their opinion in an intelligent way.

And I suppose this is hypocritical of me. I am no so revolted by the burning of draft cards, the burning of bras, the burning of the flag. Perhaps this is because the these actions are targeted at bringing attention to an injustice brought about by the government. Burning books does not seem aimed at this goal. Maybe I do not understand the reasoning behind this scheduled act, but from what I do understand, it is not to tell the government that these people do not wish to have this religion forced upon them.

Anyways, I just find the act on this day sad. This day is not about hatred of other people. This day is about remembering what makes our country great. This day is about remembering an event which drew our country together. This day is about remembering.

Long live Liberty, Justice and Freedom.
