I nearly drove to Barnes and Noble today to look at the notebooks in hopes of keeping a diary this summer. But then I remembered that I can just blog instead! I feel the need to write down what I've done everyday so that at the end of the summer I will remember all the days, such as the one today, where I really didn't do anything worth writing home about, but nonetheless enjoyed myself. And here it is:
Last night Mr B and I went to the gym at 11pm. He was quite right that I was determined to go as he'd said earlier in the evening that he felt we weren't going to make it that day. So I made a point of, after finishing Pirate Radio, putting on my gym clothes and heading out. This meant I didn't get home until midnight. And then I showered, naturally. And then felt the need to read some more of my Poirot novel. Suffice it to say it was at least one am when I finally went to sleep.
Due to the wonderful workout, I managed to sleep hard and long. I woke up around 7 am to eat some cereal before drifting back to bed until 10:30. Then I got up, put on some pajama pants and took my book (actually my kindle..more on that in a moment) out to the hammock. All three cats followed to frolic outside. I continued to read lazily in the hammock until Monty started to fuss and want me to scratch him. He actually joined me in the hammock.
At this point I was half way through Wishful Drinking by Carrie Fisher. Deciding I'd probably lazed around enough, I got up and decided to go get the larger collar Monty needed and an ID tag. Although all three of my cats are micro-chipped, I've decided that Monty and Taz need id tags since they're wandering around outside now. The time when I got in my car was 1:30. On my way to PetCo I decided to be uncharacteristically thoughtful and buy sample paints to paint test-strips in the bathroom. This is quite a departure from my usual rash decision on paint colors. This is now the beginning of week two with no rash decision on the color. I'm making progress towards a more sane color scheme in my house.
Upon arriving at PetCo, I discovered to my horror that a local shelter was attempting adoptions in the front. This is to my horror because I desperately want to save every single dog and cat they bring to the stores (not to mention the ones still in the shelters). I resolved myself to not pet the puppies. Then I saw they had a sign with a list of the stuff they needed. Suffice it to say I ended up leaving the pet store with a collar, an id tag and a bag of dog food. Only the first two came home with me. Small victories, I suppose.
Upon returning home I decided I just had to do something of some effort today. I'd been feeling a bit blah as my stomach was still uneasy from my rediscovered love affair with red hots the day before. So I decided to embark on my insane love of painting and repainting my house. I bust open the primer (a first for me. I usually just repaint over the old color and go darker and darker) and began the process of taking down the orange beast hallway and replacing it with a more mellow color.
This accomplished (well, honestly I still need to cut in because I realized I only had rollers, no brushes) I found myself ready for dinner. Mr B came over after work, we ate and then decided the grape vines in the side yard that are determined to overtake and destroy the crepe myrtles in the side yard must be tamed and one moved to the backyard to climb the pergola. By the time this was done, it was time to go to our Salsa dance class.
Typing it all up, the day seems much fuller. I did enjoy laying around reading. It's glorious to not read for school, only for pleasure. And now, I'm going to continue this wonderful thing. Goodnight.
