Had an interesting conversation with fellow students today about a specific school anxiety dream that apparently we all have: Never attending a class you were registered for. The details are slightly different for everyone, but from the discussion it seems it's a very common dream. Basically, you either knowingly registered but then thought you dropped the class or didn't even realized you registered for the class. Then, come finals time, you discover that you have this class that you've never gone to and there's a final for it. In mine, I usually figure this out three weeks before the end of the semester and go begging the professor to let me do makeup work, as usually attendance was required so I've already failed the class by not showing up. Others have told me that they realize they have the class when they look at their finals schedule but then don't know any of the material for the exam. Any of the ways the dream goes down, it's interesting that a lot of us have basically the same dream. I guess it's the modern version of showing up someplace only to realize you're naked.
This conversation was prompted by my explaining my anxiety dream last night, which is also a common one for me. It's the 'Some Technicality keeps me from taking the final' dream. Usually it's that you're required to show your student ID, and no your Drivers license or any other form of ID won't work, it has to be your student ID. And there's not time to go back and get it (usually left it someplace silly like another wallet or purse or my desk at home). So I fail the exam because I don't have my ID...I think this nightmare started with the SAT, as they stress in the directions for the SAT and LSAT that you have to have a form of identification when you come to take the exam. So, this lovely dream has been chasing me since Junior year of High School.
I'm interested now to see how many people have the 'registered for class that I never attended' dream. That's a classic for my brain to pull out about a week before finals begin and it continues until finals are over.
