Sick People

Okay...so, I'm really tired of this whole attendance requirement because it only seems to end in people getting everyone sick. I realize they think they're assisting us by requiring class attendance as they think we wouldn't show up without the requirement. Here's my thing about requiring things for our own good. If people want to pay several hundred dollars an hour for class and then not show up, that's fine. That's their money. If they think using laptops means we will goof off and not pay attention, that's fine. People should be allowed to conduct themselves as they see fit. I personally wouldn't play hookie if attendance was required. And in the classes I'm allowed to use my laptop, I have better notes and don't feel rushed (therefore making me miss stuff that's being said). I feel like by Graduate school you shouldn't need an institution telling you how to conduct your class affairs. But what do I know?

Back to the initial point: required attendance= sick people coming to class= more people being sick. If I get sick because people are inconsiderate and come to class instead of taking one of their 4 days of excused absence days, I'm going to be pissed! As it is, I always end up catching something just in time for a break, so that instead of spending my break relaxing and recharging, I'm spending it achy and sick.
