Vacation in My Vacation

Today B and I decided to stay at the hotel/spa and just relax all day. It was glorious. First off, the pool in the spa has underwater speakers. When I first heard this I thought, So what? and then I relaxed on two noodles and enjoyed feeling weightless and listening to music. If I ever become wealthy, I'm going to make sure my pool has underwater speakers.

I need to backup. Barret and I started the morning by getting breakfast at a little 1950s diner. From there we went and worked out, then changed into our swimwear and swam in the glorious audio pool. Later we both enjoyed a detoxifying-slimming-coffee-wrap. I'm not a huge fan of wraps, but this one was GREAT! The best part was washing the wrap stuff off and then having lovely scented oil rubbed all over. I felt lovely. B and I then went back to the heavenly pool. We didn't swim though. We both had our books that we're reading and so we laid by the pool and read. Then we had a couple's massage. As I speak he's getting a pedicure.

This all sounds so very rich and luxurious, does it not? Let me give some people a little advice (realizing I'm a little young to be doing so). Allow yourself to spurge on yourself and you partner once a year. I realize not everyone can afford to do what B and I did today. For one we both saved up and consider this our anniversary present to the other (as we're splitting the bill). For another, it doesn't really matter. You only have one body and you only have one life. For all the insanity in my life for the past six months, I knew that if I could just work my way to this vacation all would be okay. And the truth is, everyone needs to set aside at least one day a year just for themselves.

If you've never had a massage before, I recommend having a 90 minute massage your first times as, let's face it, you'll need it. This one day a year for yourself, get a massage. I don't care if it's just the 45 dollar massages from Massage Harmony in Austin. Do it. Your mind and body need to be reminded that you love them both.

I think today was one of the best things B and I have done for ourselves in a long time. Being able to spend the day together, nothing planned per se, but just lounging and able to talk to each other if we want or just lay there in silence is great!

So no matter what your budget, everyone needs one day a year just to pamper yourself. If you can't afford to spend a 1/2day at a local spa, then go to the grocery store, get some lotions, oils, candles and bubble bath and spend the day in your own private spa. Don't be cheap and skip the massage. It's a must! Save up and at least get an inexpensive massage. You'll be amazed how much better you feel.

Oh, and on your day of relaxation, drink lots of water!! Here at the spa, there is a large jug of water with several slices of cucumber and a few sprigs of mint floating in it. Very yummy and very good for you. I am going to make this at home as I usually use lemon or lime. This is a nice change.

So there is my insanely indulgent day. I hope someone is inspired to create their own indulgent day.
