As I was checking out at Walgreens, I began to wonder birthcontrol pills. Why isn't there a birth control pill for men? One that makes them basically sterile while they're on it, and then if/when they want children they just stop taking it? Does this exist and I am just in the dark? Of course the answer to the lack of this pill might be that men are all alike (I'm not saying they are, but possibly they are?) and judging from the men I know, hate taking pills, especially on a schedule. Therefore it would be riskier if men were in charge of taking birth control pills. But then again many women aren't that great at it either.
The cost of my birth control has doubled because if there is a generic on the market, the insurance company won't cover the cost of the name brand to the same extent. I asked my gyno why she insists on the name brand and she explained that for some lovely reason the generic is not required to have the same amount of drug in each individual pill, but rather the FDA only requires that the same amount of drug be in each prescription. This means that the pills can vary on the amount of drug up or down in each pill, and so on one day you could be more protected than on others. Thus she just feels that since we're talking about the possibility of babies, just pay more if you can.
So now I'm wondering how many people out there share the expense of their birth control. I know my best friend pays for her own birth control even though she's had the same boyfriend for at least 4 years. It seems that at some point it should be at least offered to share the expense...maybe I'm wrong?
This all began over being told that my monthly bill for this lovely commodity is now 52 dollars instead of 25. Thanks insurance. Thanks a lot. How much is Viagra a month? Really got to find that out.
